Housing & Dining

Housing

Students and instructors will be housed in the Cuzco House Apartments in Eleanor Roosevelt College (ERC). UCSD Conference Services maintains a website for residents, including mailing addresses and other useful information: http://hdh.ucsd.edu/tofer/hdh_redesign/DevEnvironment/conferences/clients.asp

Students share apartments (3-4 per apartment); instructors get apartments to themselves. Each student is assigned a private bedroom and issued a unique key card for the e-lock on the bedroom door.

Students select their roommates with assistance from the Clarion coordinator. Housing can be gender inclusive.

Living/Dining Area
Furnished with a couch and armchair, coffee table, lamps, small dining table and chairs.

Kitchen
Equipped with a stove, oven, refrigerator, cupboards, sink, garbage disposal. Students must provide their own cooking implements (pans, dishes, etc.) if they want to cook in the apartments. (We have a supply of items from past classes that you can select from on the first day, though it isn't exhaustive.)

Bedroom
Furnished with an extra-long twin bed, desk and chair, and dresser. Linen is provided (sheets, pillows, blankets). Bedrooms have an overhead lighting fixture. Reading lamps are not provided.

Bathroom
One shared bathroom per apartment, which has a shower, one toilet, and two sinks. Towels are provided this year, but we recommend bringing your own.

Apartments have central heating and natural air conditioning (ocean breezes).

Housing Amenities

Housekeeping
Housekeeping service is provided Monday-Friday. Trash is removed daily. Bathrooms are cleaned. Surfaces are vacuumed, dusted or wiped weekly. Linens are changed weekly. Washing dishware and cleaning up kitchen spills is the responsibility of workshop participants.

Laundry
There are laundry facilities in the apartment complex. The cost of washing and drying a large load is $1.50. Detergent and swipe cards in denominations of $5, $10, or $20 are sold at the Conference Desk.

Commons/Lounge
There will be a commons room reserved for Clarion and open 24/7. It's a place to hang out, party, hold informal lectures, and so forth.

Internet Access
Wireless connectivity is available in large areas of campus but not all apartments have adequate wireless coverage. Wired internet access is available in each bedroom from either an Ethernet wall jack or a data modem. Please note that the wireless in the dorms acts funny! We'll post more information on that soon.

Printers
Clarion will place two laser printers and a sufficient supply of paper and toner in the commons/ lounge.

Parking
A permit is required to park on campus. You will be able to purchase your permit online in advance. More information to come.

Not Provided
Telephones, alarm clocks, reading lamps, clothing hangers, towels, televisions.

Meals will be taken at Cafe Ventanas. Dining hall meals must be eaten in the dining facilities. Sorry, no take-out allowed.

Meal times are 1pm and 6pm.
